Magnesium is the master of all minerals!
That statement should hint at how important magnesium is for every single cell in the human body, it is needed for many of the body's processes. It's important for muscles and nerves to work properly, to keep blood sugar and blood pressure at the right level, to make proteins, bone and DNA! So here's a quick sum-up of why we should all be taking magnesium, why it's so important for our health, and which foods will give you a bit more of this precious mineral.
Magnesium is a mineral that is essential for healthy muscles, nerves, bones and blood sugar levels. If you don't get enough magnesium in your diet, you may be at a higher risk of health problems such as heart attack, stroke, diabetes or osteoporosis.
Magnesium, potassium, sodium, and calcium are the essentials for optimum cell health but they are the ones most likely to be out of wack. These minerals work in pairs and flow in and out of the cells constantly (or at least they should). The natural place for sodium and calcium is outside the cell while magnesium and potassium should be inside the cell. Anything that changes that polarity can cause stress at a cellular level and stop the cells from doing their job of keeping you healthy and young.
The trouble with our lovely and convenient 21st-century diet is that we consume an abundance of calcium and sodium but are seriously deficient in magnesium and potassium. That means that the electrolyte balance is disrupted, the cells don’t function or cleanse properly and you haven’t got a chance of fighting ageing let alone the symptoms listed here.
at least 95% of people are seriously depleted in potassium
at least 75% of people are seriously depleted in magnesium
SYMPTOMS OF MAGNESIUM DEFICIENCY
Low energy: chronic fatigue, mental fog, lethargy, poor memory & concentration
Poor mood: depression, anxiety, hormonal, stress, insomnia, tension headaches, irritability
Physical performance: low energy production, poor recovery, poor CV fitness, muscle cramps
MAGNESIUM-RICH FOODS
All four minerals are needed in perfect balance if you want a healthy heart, hormones, and bones and the most important, magnesium (and potassium), are found in plentiful abundance in green veg. nuts & seeds, & grains.
However the fact is that now, due to intensive farming we have poor soil, it's very difficult to get enough magnesium from our diet alone, despite all the produce we may or may not be eating.
SOLUTION
Angstrom Magnesium, it's a superior form of magnesium that's absorbed extremely well (right through the cell wall) so it can get to work super-fast. It also doesn't have the laxative effect other forms of magnesium can cause and is more easily tolerated by those with a sensitive digestion.
Whatever magnesium you think you may need, do not take it if you are pregnant, breast feeding, or taking prescription drugs, without checking with a healthcare expert first. And as usual this site and article are not intended to prescribe council or recommend. To learn even more you can read MAGNESIUM WITHOUT DIARRHEA
